Charlie is a 1976 honor graduate of Tulane University. Upon entering the financial services industry in New Orleans with The Equitable, Charlie gained honors as one of the youngest agents ever appointed to both The Equitable Hall of Fame and a Life Membership in the Million Dollar Round Table. In 1989, he was transferred to head the Southeast Texas Agency in Houston. His Houston Agency was a Top 10 Award winner in 1994 and 1995. In 1997, he joined Phoenix as general manager of the Southwest Region to build the wealth advisory business in a pilot program. In April 2000, he left Phoenix to start his own wealth advisory organization. His specialty is implementing marketing and financial strategies for highly paid executives, professional and entrepreneurs. Charlie has two professional designations conferred from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA.
Charlie is Founder and President of Calderwood Financial Strategies, Inc., Calderwood Family Office, Inc., and Calderwood Solutions, Inc. With these ventures, Charlie has been able to bring a more comprehensive approach to his financial services clients by providing administrative support for wealthy individuals and families, and back office administration and financial accounting for law firms.
In December 2003, while merging his corporation into a national firm, Charlie was appointed Managing Partner for New England Financial with offices in Houston and San Antonio. After successfully building the agency to exceed 40 advisors from a nearly scratch operation, he resigned from NEF to build a sales practice with a more independent financial services firm. Charlie joined Wealth Development Strategies LP in November of 2009. He is working with affluent and wealthy business owners, executives and professionals whom seek an expert of Charlie’s caliber and reputation.
Civic and Religious Activities
Charlie has held numerous leadership positions in civic and charitable activities. He co-founded and served seven years as president of The Regis School for Boys. He is past president of the Exchange Club of Houston and has served on the Board of several different professional and trade associations including the Board of Directors for the Society of Financial Service Professionals and HAIFA. He is on Tulane University’s Dean Advisory Committee and was the general chairman of the 25th Reunion for the Class of ’76 of Tulane University. In addition, he is a member of the Varsity Letterman’s Club of Tulane. In August 2005, Charlie was privileged to serve on the Nominating Committee for the HRC.
As a former Eagle Scout and father of an Eagle Scout, Charlie has been active in Boy Scouts as a merit badge counselor. He also served for four years as President of St. Michael’s St. Vincent de Paul Society. Charlie currently serves on the Diocesan Committee for Employee Benefits. He has been on the Diocesan Development Committee for Inner City Catholic Schools, and is a former four-year member of the Bishop’s Diocesan Development Committee. Currently, he is serving a second three-year appointment on the City of Spring Valley Planning and Zoning Commission and he also is a member of the City Finance Committee.
Charlie and Sandy have been married for 30 years with four children: Caroline, 29; Lindsey, 28; Christopher, 26; Jack, 12. His hobbies include Family activities, gardening, golf, his two golden retrievers, and bird watching. He has been a member of Champions Golf Club for 20 years and Houston Racquet Club for 18 years.
