Josephine Olmstead is a financial advisor with Wealth Development Strategies LLC, one of Houston’s oldest comprehensive financial planning firms. She began her career as an attorney at law with the focus of the financial industries practice domestically and internationally and has been working in financial services since 2003.

Mrs. Olmstead received her law degree from the Harvard Law School. There, she received the Landon H. Gammon Fellowship in recognition of her outstanding academic performance. She practiced law with Baker McKenzie, one of the world’s largest international law firms, as well as with GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corporation (GMACCM), the financial services subsidiary of General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM),  as its regional legal department head.

During her practice, Mrs. Olmstead managed the issuance of a wide range of financial products for clients of major insurance companies, asset management companies, and securities & brokerage firms and, as a result, is very familiar with the financial industry and its practices.  Mrs. Olmstead has also served as an independent director for several listed and closely-held corporations.

Mrs. Olmstead transitioned into private wealth management to provide more meaningful, direct assistance to individuals looking to strengthen, secure, and protect their families’, and businesses’ financial futures.  To do so, she works closely with attorneys, accountants, and tax advisors as necessary to develop and help execute the most advantageous and robust plans for her clients.  Mrs. Olmstead specializes in services for business owners, providers of professional and medical services, and young families. 

Mrs. Olmstead holds the FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses and the Texas General Lines of Life, Accident, Health and HMO insurance license. Her experience and knowledge in the financial industry provide her with the core competencies to offer her clients expertise in the areas of risk management, estate, and retirement planning on both the personal and business-ownership levels.

Mrs. Olmstead is passionate about children’s welfare. She and her husband work with KIND (Kids In Need of Defense) to provide pro bono legal services to children in danger.  She currently serves on the board of the Bellaire Young Mothers Group. She is also a member of the Harvard Alumni Association, former director of the Taiwan Harvard Alumni Association Board, and a member of the Houston Young Lawyer Association. She regularly gives financial planning talks with focuses on specific areas, such as privately held businesses, young families, professionals, retirement planning, and financing medical treatment.

Mrs. Olmstead and her husband, Robert, a Houstonian attorney at law, are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Houston.  They are expecting their first son in September of 2017. In her spare time, Ms. Olmstead enjoys spending time with her friends and family, including her father-in-law, Cecil Olmstead, of counsel with Norton Rose Fulbright, and with her mother-in-law, Beverly Olmstead, a gifted pianist, and retired secondary school teacher.
