Tommy Brooks is a 25 year Certified Financial Planner and recently joined Wealth Development Strategies, LLC. as a Senior Associate. He has over 30 years of experience as a C-Suite executive in the financial services industry. Additionally, he spent several years in acquisitions and portfolio advisory services for a local energy firm. Mr. Brooks understands the financial needs and challenges of individuals, businesses, and business owners. His mission is to continue to help high net worth individuals, executives, professionals, community and business leaders develop, implement, and revise financial plans. He enjoys creating strategies for clients, their families, and their businesses, and he seeks to become their trusted advisor.
Mr. Brooks is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He earned his Accounting Degree from the University of Houston, where he is recognized as a distinguished Alumnus, as well as holding a Professional Masters of Banking from Louisiana State University. Mr. Brooks is a Sr. Fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Houston. He holds FINRA Series 7 & 66 securities licenses as well as a General Lines Insurance license allowing him to offer Life, Accident, Health and HMO insurance.
Mr. Brooks has been actively involved in the Houston community serving on for-profit and non-profit boards. He has served on the board of directors of Unity National Bank, the Houston Board of the United Negro College Fund, Texas Southern University’s Renewable Energy & Environmental Protection Academy, and the Joy Tabernacle Church. Additionally, Mr. Brooks was a founding board member of Inner City Youth (nka Forge for Families), established to address the holistic needs of children in Third Ward Houston. In addition, he is a founding board member of the South Central Houston Action Council, a non-profit clinic created to expand the medical services of the Harris County Hospital District. He currently serves on the capital campaign committee of Pro-Vision Charter School. Statewide, he was appointed by the Governor of Texas to serve on the Board of Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, one of the nation’s largest and successful student loans guarantors administering the Federal Family Education Loan Program. He was the first African-American to serve as board Chairman. He has served as a member of the board of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas, the trade association that advocates for community banks in the State of Texas. Nationally, he served as board Treasurer and as an Executive Board member of the National Bankers Association, the trade association that advocates for minority-owned banks throughout the nation. There he received the President’s Award for distinguished service. Mr. Brooks is also a recipient of the Excellence Award from the U.S Department of Energy for his dedication in preserving and expanding its banking program.
Mr. Brooks is married to Janet and they have two sons. He is an avid golfer who enjoys sports; travel and seeing people reach their God-given potential.
